This year Clitheroe Country Market celebrate their 50th birthday
Its a double celebration because 2019 is also the centenary year for Country Markets Ltd. One hundred years of Country Markets (formerly known as WI markets) across the UK. Various ideas have been put forward to mark these occasions so keep your eyes peeled for news and the possibility of free cake! The photo albums and archives have been dusted off and we would love to hear from anyone with Clitheroe market memories and stories of past members.
Clitheroe Country Market returned after the winter break on the third Tuesday in March and we need not have worried about people forgetting about us in our absence. Our loyal customers have turned out in force and the first March markets have proved busy and bustling. Hopefully this will continue as the weather warms and we welcome new visitors.
The Spring colours on the plant table have brought cheer and disappeared quickly to new homes whilst the knitters have been busy with Easter chicks and new craft items. The jewellery display has showcased lots of new necklaces, earrings and brooches along with new gift boxes. As always, our selection of original cards is extensive and the addition of fine art prints and photographs has proved popular.
It never ceases to amaze how the loaded tables of home bakes and savouries are cleared throughout the morning. It does help when goods are preordered, guessing how much of what to make is not an exact science! We are hopeful of welcoming a couple of new bakers soon – so we look forward to new products and ideas.
Since we moved upstairs, the Country Market Cafe has really taken off and more tables have been squeezed in to accommodate the growing number of customers. It is becoming a real hub for people to meet friends and we love the fact that we are seeing more Mums and babies too. The tea and coffee helps to pay the rent and the kitchen members are doing a great job. Why not drop in and join us?
